For The Whitney
so im participating in a show at the whitney, "the Funnies"- a kind of tribute to comics and other tabloid narrative imagery. They are putting together a tabloid magazine with artists images in it instead of the usual postcard to advertise for the show in Feb. This is my image, another stab at my incubating "warrior queen" project.

Web Comic
So, I forgot to post this on here. I started a web comic, for no other reason than because I'm bored. It's called Two Fifteen and it's hanging out on my portfolio site until I get some money to set up its own site. Maybe I'll get a freelance job and I'll get to have a Christmas this year. Anyway, you can check it out here:

Comic Madness!
So who's doing 24 hour comic day this year? 10am Saturday October 18 to 10 am Sunday October 19.
I'll be back in Portland that day, but not sure if I'll be participating or not yet. How about you guys? Crazy enough to do it again?

New look
So after turning on the tv one day and watching shows on nickelodeon that portrayed a "retro" style of character(s), I decided why not? Again, the characters from chum drawn in a new style. What do you think of the colors?
And on a side note... come January yours truly is off to South Korea for one year to teach English (that is if all goes well with the contract). But as of now all looks well.

apt. c3
So I finally got my copy of photoshop onto my new computer and my tablet hooked up, so I'm finally getting back into my comic strips. I'm going back and redoing the earlier ones in a new strip format, instead of the square format I had been working in. I'm liking it a lot more.
Just gotta keep cranking them out now!

@ the movies
here's what i've been working on the last couple days, The Joker and Anton Chigurh from No Country For Old Men. I like them 'cause they're loose and colorful, while retaining my line work. This way of working is more liken to how i was working in school, and i could see this in a magazine (i think). What do you think?

CHUM, yum
Funny to think that my thesis work would be going this far. I have currently sold 50 copies of CHUM since graduation and am still drawing up new strips (I think the count is in the seventies now).
Ironically, since I work at a place very similar to that of the strip for forty or fifty hours a week, I doubt that I will be running out of material anytime soon, well, here's hoping...

I Saw A Totoro
Okay, so i used to an anime HATER but my girlfriend has been renting movies by Hayao Miyazaki, among them My Neighbor Totoro.
I was inspired when i came across The Totoro Forest Project, a gallery consisting of paintings and prints from a vast array of artists. Apparently the forest that inspired the movie is in danger of being cut down and they are raising money to save it.
Anyway i haven't watercolored in a while, i realized that i really miss it. Starting them is the hardest part, but a finished piece is worth it.

Ryan in Print
A while ago i let local hip-hop artist Brzowski use one of my images to use on his latest album. I just got an advance copy of it and it looks SICK!...especially the actual disc itself considering i didnt even know he was gonna slap it on there.

Hello
Hi blog, this is Audrey and I am posting to tell yous how i used my Illustration degree to get a pretty decent job.
So basically I just got this job designing, building, and painting signs on huge tents. They pay pretty well, have full benefits, and it's kind of artsy, well moreso than housekeeping. When I went for an interview they said, "well we couldnt help but notice that you have no prior experience doing anything that requires any skill", which is pretty harsh but true.
They were interested in my art degree however, because they needed someone who could illustrate people's ideas for custom awnings and tents. I told them that my whole art school career was about communicating people's ideas and building things, so they hired me based on that.
Of course I still plan on getting a studio and making art my job, but its nice to know that you can use your art degree to get better than average employment in the meantime.
